Here are some of the details of her birth.
Sadie, Emmy, and Bree spent the night at Grandma and Papa's on Sunday because I had a scheduled induction Monday morning, and Brian and I needed to be at the hospital by 6:30am. I called the hospital at 6am to make sure they had room for me and the nurse said to make our way in.
I had been to the hospital a few weeks earlier because of false labor (embarrising yes...especially since this is child #4 and one would think I would know the difference!). My check in was really fast because the hospital already had our insurance information on file and had asked me all sorts of health related questions on the previous visit. Once I was in the room I got into my hospital gown and into bed where they got me all hooked up to the IV's and started me on some pitocin. At first I started at a 2 and the nurse just kept increasing the level of pit I was receiving by 2 every 30 minutes. She said I could eat, drink and pretty much do whatever I wanted, so I had Brian get me crackers, cookies, and a pretty mediocre sandwich. I had never had the go ahead to eat whatever I wanted on previous labors, so that was pretty awesome! Brian didn't think I should be eating a sandwich, but I kept that entire thing down like a champ! I scrolled though Netflix and decided that the Amanda Knox Lifetime special looked pretty good, so that is what I watched inbetween napping and talking to Brian. At about 11:40am, Dr. Leavitt came in and broke my water...yet there was no gush of liquid or really any change in my contractions after that. He said to give it a little time. About thirty minutes later I told the nurse that I really didn't think he had broken my water, so she checked me and tried breaking it again and she confirmed that Dr. Leavitt had indeed broken my water and that this baby had not been in that much liquid. I had never experienced that on any of my other babies. I wasn't really in too much pain, but the epidural guy came to check on me, so I told him to go ahead and get it started. I thought I may progress really fast and didn't want to end up having this baby naturally like my poor older sis! This epidural was pretty different because I had a lot more feeling in my legs and body, but not really pain. Just pressure.
I continued to watch the lifetime special, eat as much food as I wanted, hang out with Brian, text family and friends, and take a few naps. I woke up from a nap at about 3:30pm feeling some intense pressure in my lower woman region :) and decided to sleep a little longer (I was still pretty comfortable and sleeping felt great). Twenty minutes or so passed and I called the nurse in. She checked me and I was at a 9. She frantically called Dr. Leavitt and he made his way over, but not fast enough for the nurse's liking, so she called him a second time. At that point he was in the parking lot.
I had them bring a mirror in because I like to watch the birth and it helps me in pushing. I assumed the birthing position, pushed one long push, and she came right out! Brian always takes such great pictures of our girls births and I was especially grateful he got some good pictures since my camera was acting all crazy and wouldn't let me move the focal point around or review the pictures on the menu.
