Pirate Night

The girls have one more week of school at Westside and then they get to start up at Sunrise Elementary. I'm so glad they have been able to go to so many activities at the school in the short two months of school so far.

Today was the third pirate night we've been to at Westside. I asked Bree what her favorite part of the night was and she said, "When I ate the six cookies when you weren't watching me!" I asked her three times ..."six cookies" and she'd laughed and said "Yes Mom SIX!!" These were good size cookies too!

She was on a major sugar high tonight. She was saying her prayers while jump roping. Emmy put a stop to that really quick though saying that is wasn't appropriate.

Mr Bryd has been a really great teacher for Bree. She loves going to school. Also Bree won 2nd place in a drawing contest that her bus driving was having. Bree drew a picture of bloody Mary and wanted it to say, "I am going to eat your baby!" I told her she would probably get sent to the school counselor or principle if she wrote that so instead she wrote Happy Halloween Bloody Mary. Now I am thinking she may have won 1st place if I let her write that since high schoolers were judging the contest :)

 Rosie went over to a three year old little blond boy and pushed him really hard to the ground. I went over and told him I was so sorry and that I needed to watch Rosie more closely. He had been holding it together so well and then after about ten seconds he just broke down sobbing and said, "You need to watch your baby and you need to tell her no all day long!" Poor little fella!

 Mrs. Laddel is Mr. Byrd's teaching assistant.

 I am so grateful that Bree's sisters helped her do the treasure map! Holy smokes there was no way I was going to be able to supervise that with Rosie on the loose!

 One of Bree's kindergartner friends I have never heard about or met, but Bree insisted on a picture.

 Rosie loves our old neighbor Emma and just cuddled her all night long.

 Emmy showed off her fun poem and pumpkin! Emmy is student of the week next week and she is super excited about it. She is filling out a poster about herself and gets to bring in something for show-and-tell. She thinks that is going to be her fish. Emmy's teacher is so thoughtful to let Emmy be the student-of-the week on her last week of school!.

Sadie's Last Day of 1st Grade

 Sadie had field day for the last day of school. The younger girls and I wanted to go watch and take some pictures, but when we got to the school they were doing an assembly with a jump rope group. It felt like we had gone back in time to the early 90's. These kids were amazing doing all sorts of jump rope tricks. We saw Sadie sitting there enjoying the assembly. No pictures, but we had fun watching for awhile until it was time to go visit teaching.

 We always have to do this pose since Sadie first did it when she was going to preschool!

 Bree wanted to show off her letter cards. She carries these all around the house and begs everyone to play, "what sound does this make". She is one smart cookie!

 

I thought it would be a fun, new tradition to spray Sadie with silly string as she got off the bus on the last day of school! So we walked down a little early to the bus stop. I practiced with the girls spraying the string because I didn't want them to shoot Sadie in the eye, and I told them they had to help me clean up when we were done. 

 They had amazing aim and covered my camera on their practice shot.

 Little did we know that Sadie was going to get off the bus in tears! They kept spraying and I was completely confused to why this girl would be sad.

 She composed herself for just a moment to take some pictures with friends before she raced home crying again. Come to find out that instead of having Mrs. Cherry for 1st and 2nd grade, they decided to tell the children on the last day of school that plans had changed, and Mrs. Cherry was going to stay in 1st grade due to new challenging curriculum. I am just as bummed as Sadie is! Mrs. Cherry pushed these kids all year long and was so wonderful to work with! It's been about a week and Sadie is feeling a little better about things. Hopefully the sad feelings don't resurface again at the end of summer!

Sadie and Emmy First Day of School 2014

How did I forgot to post the first day of school? Kind of funny to be posting this since this week is the last week of school, but I love these pictures so much that I had to get them up here. Seeing these pictures makes it seem like the year has flown by, but really it was kind of a long year since I've been pregnant for pretty much all of it!

 Sadie lost her tooth the night before the first day of school, so she got a visit from the tooth fairy! What a way to start the school year!

 On special occasions (mostly birthdays) we like to do waffles, whip cream and strawberries, so the first day of school qualified for one yummy breakfast.

 These pictures melt my heart! There was some major back-to-school excitement was in the air and all of the girls were so happy this morning! I am not one of those mothers that cry when their kids go back to school. I am so excited for them to have new experiences and be able to come home and share their day with me. These girls thrive on having new experiences, and I love how outgoing they each are and that they love being independent.

 Sadie started 1st grade with Mrs. Cherry.

 Emmy started preschool with Mrs. Taggart. We really lucked out on teachers this year. It's so nice to know that my girls were with such kind and loving people while they were gone. I feel like I have learned so much from interacting from their teachers this year too!

 We drove Sadie to school and you are suppose to just let your kid go into the school by themselves, but I had to sneak in and see Sadie in her new classroom.

 Here is me being sneaky. I remember having to help a few kids find the right classrooms too that were coming in late, so it's a good thing I was there! (wink, wink)

Emmy started up preschool and I am sure she wished it was more than just two days a week. She got snacks, crafts, playtime. All of the things that she loves!

 Every morning she'd go in and practice writing her first name. She already knew how to, but her handwriting improved quite a bit over the year.

 Emmy decorated an apple at home to bring to school and put on the class tree.

Back to School Night for Sadie

 It can always be a little nerve wracking to be meeting your teacher for the first time and going to a new classroom, but Mrs. Cherry is so personable and friendly that it was a nice smooth transition into first grade for Sadie. Lucky girl gets to have the same teacher for 2nd grade as well!
