State Fair

We really weren't planning on going to the fair in September because we had just gotten back from Oregon and went to Oaks Park so there wasn't really a need to go on more "barf rides" as we like to call them. But it has become tradition to go and we always have fun so we once again went to the fair. It was the same day as Sadie's first day of preschool. 

Emmy rode this same ride last year and cried the entire time. Boy how things have changed. Emmy thought it was heaven on earth.

Papa and Grandma came with us and were so nice to take the girls on the miniature horse ride.

Fun at the Fair

We debated going to the fair since we are going to Disneyland next week, but in the end we always just have a lot of fun there so we went... and the fair did not disappoint. Emmy rode on her first ride and was still super sleeping from napping so she didn’t really enjoy it too much. Emmy was actually in a sleepy/bad mood until we got to the petting zoo where she did a 180. She was squealing and hugging all the baby goats. This girl loves all animals! Brian was excited to see a buffalo there. I have always wanted to get a turkey leg (not sure why) so we got that a corn dog and a tiger ear. Sadie went on lots of rides and I got to go with her on the fun swings  with her (puke)!We are calling thisour warm up for Disneyland (we are just a tinsy bit excited!)

Lessons Learned at the Fair

We went to the state fair a couple weeks ago and Sadie was in heaven. There was delicious food, fun kiddie rides, Papa and Grandma, the list goes on and on...and we learned a few things too.

Lesson #1 - if your child isn’t tall enough to ride the rides just put a BIG flower on their head and you’ll fool everyone!

Lesson #2 – Hold on tight!

Lesson #3 – Hold still for the nice lady who paints your face.

Lesson #4 – The view is much better on Daddy's shoulders.

Lesson #5 – Everything is always much more fun when Papa and Grandma are there!

Lesson #6 – The view from the stroller is pretty good too.

I was using quick keys and fat fingered something resulting in this. I sorta liked it so I thought I’d share. Just don’t ask me to do it twice because I have no Idea what I pushed!

The Fair

We went to the Eastern Idaho State Fair Tuesday morning and it was a completely different experience than last year when we went and Sadie was only two months old. We watched the horse competition and our favorite horse didn't even place! This lady looking at Sadie won first place and she was super nice so I guess we shouldn't be too disappointed.



We stayed at the petting zoo for quite awhile and I liked it a lot because they didn't let all the animals roam loose around you. They were all fenced in and the kids could reach their hands through to pet them. Of course Sadie wasn't having any of that and just stuck close to us.

Animals are pretty amazing to a 14 month old. Sadie was trying to make the same noise as a pigs by clearing her throat. This age is too cute!

This is as close as Sadie got to going on a ride. We thought about riding the Ferris wheel, but decided to just spend all our money on food because that is the real reason we go to the fair.


I got a chicken gyros, Brian got a teriyaki bowl, Sadie got a piece of bread with fresh strawberry jam and we all split the scone nuggets. Sadie just ate the honey butter and let us have the scones. How nice of her!


Next year I think we will go at night and will ride a few "barf rides" like we did last year. Sadie will even be tall enough to go on a kiddie ride. Yee Haw!

Eastern Idaho State Fair

We went to the fair on Thursday night with Brian's parents. Brian hadn't been to the fair for over ten years which is funny because I have been the last three years working at the Union booth or slicing bread for Great Harvest. This was by far the best time because I finally had a chance to go with Brian and ride some rides. We bought just enough tokens for us to ride two of the big rides and then one of the kiddie ones. I think everyone else around us bought the wrist bracelets for unlimited rides, but there is no way our bodies could handle that!
Looking at this picture I feel crazy for even riding this death trap. We were the whitest and the oldest people in every line we stood in (that should have given us a clue). It is a miracle we didn't puke, but we sorta planned it that way and left the good eats until the end.

As we walked around the fair we could hear Poison playing off in the distance "Highway to Hell!" We like to expose Sadie to the finer things in life :)

Here's Brian and Sadie standing in front of the huge turkey leg vendor. I really wanted a turkey leg, but instead opted for a well rounded dutch oven dinner including beef, potatoes, and beans. Good stuff! Next year though, I am throwing nutrition to the wind and I will get me my turkey leg!

Brian's parents are the coolest! They are always willing to take care of their fussy granddaughter and we are indeed grateful. We ended the night with a delicious funnel cake because I think it is against the law to leave the fair without buying one.
