Mesa Falls/Yellowstone

When I realized I had missed posting about the first day of school, I also saw that I never blogged pics from our Mesa Falls/Yellowstone adventure. Since we go almost every year I wanted to post it because it is fun to see how the girls change and we always have a grand outdoor adventure when we go.

The stairs leading down to the falls are so pretty with the foliage all around! I have taken many a picture on these stairs. 

 

 Brian lifted Bree up to look at the falls and it freaked her out! Poor baby was terrified!!

 They have a lot of fun things to look at in the lodge. Emmy is such a crackup!

 We ate in West Yellowstone at our favorite pizza place called Wild West Pizzeria. We usually do a build your own pizza option and they have unique toppings like Gouda cheese that gives the pizza a different taste. LOVE IT!

 Then we were off to hit a few places in Yellowstone.

 Little legs get tired so Brian and I both got great workouts that day. I always got Bree and Brian got Emmy. I was in pretty darn good shape by then after running so much in the summer that I was happy to haul a big baby around!

 I can't wait to get back up to Yellowstone! We are so lucky that we are only two hours away and can sneak away for the weekend on a whim.

 This place was  called Dragons Mouth Springs and it is my favorite! It has a stinky sulfur smell like the rest of Yellowstone, but the name is cool! 

Sadie saw this picture and said, Mom, what are you wearing! That is so not in style!" Yes my jacket is a bit eccentric, but I love it and can't wait to fit into it again....someday!

West Yellowstone Excursion

We decided one snowy March day we were heading to West Yellowstone for the weekend.There is a hotel with a fun water slide that we knew would make the girls happy. Poor Sadie's face. Her sister attacked her...they have a little but of inner girl rage!

Anytime we head to Yellowstone we always stop to see Great Grandma in Ashton. The girls talk about Great Grandma all the time and I am so glad they have gotten to have so much time with her. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met.

Once we got into town we stopped in a cute diner and had hamburgers and fries.

 We spent the next two days doing a lot of swimming and playing on the waterslide.

More Yellowstone

I wanted to try out some new textures, so here are a few that I played with... We had a great time a few weeks ago enjoying nature in Yellowstone with the girls. This field had a sign  in it saying, “Beware of Bears Beyond This Point”. They sure know how to scare a three-yr-old!

Since it was the highlight of our Yellowstone trip this year, I figured the waterslide or “water-splash” as Sadie liked to call it, deserved it’s own post...

Both girls were fearless on the waterslide and we took them over and over. Then we would go back and sit in the hot tub to warm up. It was nice that there were two hot tubs so we got an entire one to ourselves. This was our second time staying at this hotel, but we didn’t utilize the slide as much the first time since Sadie was only two months old. On this trip we went the night we got there and also the next morning so we had lot of slide time.

It seems to be that we make it to Mesa Falls annually now which makes sense because it is so beautiful up there. This was Sadie's first time going and she saw saw so many dogs which makes anyplace wonderful to her. She knows how to say "ruff ruff" and as soon as she hears, sees or we tell her there is a dog she ruffs none stop for a good minute.



So I asked Brian if we accidentally dropped Sadie over the edge if he would jump in after her and he told me he would find a way to climb down really fast, but I think he would just have to jump in and chance it because otherwise she'd be a goner! He told me he would probably die if he jumped in and I told him that would still make me feel better because at least we tried... do other people talk about this kind of stuff or are we just weird?!?!



After Mesa Falls we drove to West Yellowstone for lunch. This time we tried Buckaroo Bill's. I asked for lemon in my water like I ALWAYS do and they mixed a little lemonade in my water turning into what Brian liked to call "pigeon water". It was pretty nasty. We got shredded pork and beef burgers. It wasn't the best so don't go there ;)



We have found that the Dairy Queen in W. Yellowstone is very generous though and we always have to stop by. It is always the busiest place. I got my huckleberry chocolate which I am still waiting to savor. We sampled huckleberry licorice (delicious) and next time we go up there (in Sept. maybe) I really want to buy the huckleberry gummy bears!


I kinda wonder the story behind all the bulls around the town. If you look closely there are signs that say "do not climb or sit on the bulls" but we didn't look until after we tossed our baby up on it so don't judge us! It was SO well worth her expressions too.



That night we came back and took the walls of water off our tomatoes and weeded the garden so we still felt like we had a very productive Saturday. We are going to have an insane amount of tomatoes so I hope my neighbors and friends like them because we are definitely going to share the wealth!
