We went to Utah the week before Christmas, and on Sunday night drove to SLC to see the lights at Temple Square. This may have been our all time best experience going there. Probably because we went early before the lights were even on and temple square was pretty dead besides a bunch of sister missionaries walking all over. It was early enough that the girls weren't tired yet and had a lot of energy to walk around. Not to mention it was so much easier to take some pictures with daylight. We went and saw the Christus and talked to the sisters and just enjoyed the atmosphere, and then the magical moment happened. All of the lights came on at once and it was just exciting to see the place light up!

I love how high their little necks had to bend to look up to see Jesus's face.

We told the girls we were coming to Temple Square to see Jesus and they thought we were coming to meet the real Jesus. It was so cute and I felt kinda sad to disappoint their little spirits when we explained that Jesus was there in spirit and we weren't going to meet a live talking Jesus. So many big concepts to grasp for a 2 and 4 yr old.
I have really not mastered action shots yet!
Emmy took this first picture...
and Sadie took these next two.

As your little girls were looking at the Christus, so sweet and wondering, I was thinking wouldn't it be creepy cool if they had one of those motion activated projectors that light up the face and start talking. Then they could meet Jesus for realz:) What lucky little girls to have parents to take them on fun outings and to even get to pick out their own ornaments!
I want to be on temple square when they turn on the lights. That sounds so cool. We go every year, so next year we'll have to try to go earlier and 'see the magic'.
